The former Degussa Werken founded the carbon black factory in Kalscheuren as long ago as 1895. The works was purchased by Orion Engineered Carbons in 2011. This site has a capacity of approximately 160,000 tonnes per year and is the oldest, largest and most versatile works of its type in Europe (thank you Wikipedia!). About 80 different types of carbon black are produced here. The heat generated during the production process is converted to electricity that is fed into the public grid. The town of Hürth recently reached an agreement that increased the provision of heat from the works to 75% of the public heat supply.
GRIESHABER Logistik GmbH handles the logistics chain – from incoming goods, through warehouse management, to dispatch and loading processes – with its LOK team at its Kalscheuren site.
